Business overview

Advanced Magnesium Technologies (AMT) was formed in November 2004 out of key residual assets of Australian Magnesium Corporation (AMC). The principal assets were a skilled team of experts and an exclusive portfolio of worldwide intellectual property rights. AMT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian Magnesium Corporation. Established in 1996, Australian Magnesium Corporation embarked upon the development and construction of a large primary magnesium production plant at Stanwell, near Rockhampton in Central Queensland, Australia. Due to cost overruns and a changing world market for magnesium, construction of the plant was discontinued in June 2003. Australian Magnesium Corporation also owned the world's largest deposit of magnesite at Kunwarara, north of Rockhampton, an operational mine and a magnesia production plant in Rockhampton. The deposit, mine and magnesia plant were sold in 2004 to repay all of Australian Magnesium Corporation's remaining debt associated with termination of the primary magnesium plant. AMT was established to fill a need for new technologies that would enable the use of light-weight magnesium in a range of more demanding applications. The prime growth market for magnesium is the automotive industry and there are also significant opportunities for its use in other consumer products.
