LINABACH TOBACCO CO. D?sseldorf (Germany)

Business overview

Founded in 1902, Peter Linzbach took over the cigar store from his predecessor, Mr. August Otto Schmidt, in 1938, just before World War II started. Arriving back in Germany after russian captivity, he found his store totally destroyed. So he and his wife Elisabeth started to build it up again the way he envisioned a tobacco store to be. Between 1947 and 1960 they focussed on pipes, tobacco and cigars. Actually, Linzbach advanced to be the first D?sseldorf store with a Davidoff-Depot. In 1974 they cofounded the 'John Aylesbury Society', a group of retailers with the common mission to supply customers with products and services 'committed to quality and excellence'. Since then, the John Aylesbury selection of finest tobacco, pipes, accessories and cigars has its special place in the Linzbach range of products. Until 1977, the main store was extended to today?s size. That's when Peter Linzbach decided to close all branches and give up direct import and most wholesale trade: 'We've got to be small to be really good.' His decision proved right when the store?s reputation grew to a national level. In 1983, Peter and Elisabeth Linzbach retired from business and their daughter Margret Schmitz and nephew Heinrich Linzbach took over the store. Peter and Elisabeth Linzbach deceased 93 and 89 years old in 2000, until then they give respectively helpful strategic advice. The latest example is the expansion of the two walk-in humidors of about 130 m2 for tobacco and cigar-imports from Cuba, Spain, Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic, or being present on the internet as the first German tobacco retailer when in 1996 grandson Werner Schmitz reserved the domain www.Tobacco.De. In 1996, Margret Schmitz became sole owner of the store, and her son Werner became Junior-Supervisor. Just like her parents had sent her for training to England to become a pipe-maker at the age of 19, Ms. Schmitz sent her son to the Dominican Republic to Davidoff and the following year, Werner Schmitz went on to become the first German specialist dealer for tobacco who had the great honour to spent four months training in Cuba: here went though the cycle of the tobacco-process from the fields where he harvested tobacco, to the Havanna factories where he learned how to manufacture cigars for export. By 1999 Ms. Schmitz invited her nice, Christina L?dtke-Willebrand to join the traditional family store as future co-owner together with her son. In 2004 the shop came into the hands of the 3rd generation: Werner Schmitz and Christina L?dtke-Willebrand becomes owner of the store. Ms. Schmitz is still helpful in daily business and with her strategic competence. As you see, you chose Linzbach concerning competent service regarding all aspects of smoking and its culture.
