Since 1996, the mission of Pet Ecology Brands, Inc. (PEBI) has been to develop and manufacture technologically advanced earth-friendly products that are safe for pets, people and the planet. PEBI was formed to solve certain important aspects related to pet health care and maintenance while also addressing the public resources needed to deal with pet waste. First, PEBI was formed to address the issues of clay based cat litter that is building up in landfills around the world. According to the Bureau of Waste Management, approximately 8 billion pounds of spent cat litter is dumped into U.S. Landfills every year - that's over twice the amount of disposable diapers. Moreover, clay-based products swell to 15 times their original size via water absorption, thereby exacerbating landfill capacities and resources even further. Simply put, the clay-based cat litter products that dominate the market are heavy, bulky, smelly when soiled (despite product claims to the contrary), non-biodegradable, and hazardous to the environment. The second problem PEBI was formed to address is the unhealthy weight gain experienced by many pets, principally dogs, in the U.S. And major city centers around the world. Today, dogs are fed fat rich food and treats, typically on overabundant, scheduled feeds. Such pets often get significantly less exercise than required to maintain and ideal weight and healthy condition under such feeding and exercise regimens. Such fat rich food and treat products when fed to dogs in a steady diet create very unhealthy pets that are subject to the same complications that people experience with significant weight gain via fat rich diets, especially when coupled with inadequate or little exercise, ranging from heart and lung problems, to skin and kidney diseases, to circulatory and immune system issues.
